Refurbishing the Tank or Hosearm
Note: When considering replacing your tank and/or hose arm check your unit to determine if you have a hose arm with or without a bottom shutoff valve.

To replace the water tank AND reuse your hose arm, if you are reusing the hose arm with a bottom ball valve, you must request that the replacement tank's white elbow be set at a 45 degree angle to perpendicular. Otherwise, there is not enough room to rotate the hose arm into the elbow.
  1. To reuse your hose arm: Remove the hose arm from the white elbow on the damaged tank by unscrewing it. It is chemically glued into the white elbow so you will need to use a vise and a pipe wrench to break the seal. Carefully clean the brass threads and set it aside. Take the damaged tank off the steel frame by undoing and removing the banding, the base side bolts, and front casters. Lift off the tank. Using Teflon pipe tape, screw your hose arm into the new white elbow on your replacement tank. If you are receiving a new tank with an elbow already in place on the exhaust pipe at an upright 90 degree, you will only be able to use a hose arm with a ball valve at the water application end of the hose.
  2. To replace the tank and glue on a new white elbow and hose arm. Saw the white elbow off the gray exhaust pipe as close to the elbow as possible (1). Sand the severed end smooth in preparation for gluing (2). Use purple PVC primer on the sanded exhaust pipe and inside the white elbow (3). Use PVC glue inside the white elbow and on the pipe end no more than one minute after the primer dries (4). Note: The new elbow must be attached at a 45 degree angle to accommodate the second (at bottom of unit near base) ball valve, if required. Some hose arms have only one ball valve at the water application end of the hose. Determine which you have before gluing the elbow onto the exhaust.
  3. When the primer and glue are ready, line the white elbow up at a 45 degree angle (5). Slip the white elbow onto the gray exhaust pipe in one motion. Do not twist or adjust it now, or you will create a leaky connection, and have to replace the tank. Let the glue set over night and then rebuild your unit by securing it to the frame by replacing the banding, side bolts and casters.
